WHY THIS MATTERS
This project is on poverty in the Dominican Republic and Mexico with a focus on how the lack of education affects society, such as young pregnancy and the ability to move socially. What factors play into the lack of educational opportunities for those living in poverty conditions?
This is an important topic for me for two reasons: one, my family in Mexico comes from a community where government support is limited, meaning that access to clean water, electricity, and good schooling is inconsistent compared to big cities. Two, going to the Dominican communities over spring break for the past two years that live independently, and first handedly seeing the way people survive, ignites my willingness to learn and spread awareness about the lives of the underprivileged.
This is of global significance because the world is ever changing day by day with new technology and advancements that could potentially better people’s lives. It is important to remember that those who live in the areas I wish to focus on are not excluded from the brighter future we envision.
